How Senior Home Care Can Be Beneficial
Apr 15, 2024

As parents age, adult children must make certain choices about long-term care. There are a few options available to families. The two most common options are senior in-home care and senior care within a facility. According to the experts at Morningstar, the average age that which women are transitioned into long-term care is 80. It’s good to consider the different options before making a final decision, so let’s look at some of the benefits of in-home care.

Familiar Surroundings

As people age, they often become very attached to familiar surroundings, and getting uprooted from them can be traumatic. Families that are hoping to cause the least amount of upset for their relatives should consider in-home care. This option allows the individual to remain in their own home or in the home of a loved one. Care assistants come in to provide necessary treatment and care during the week. This is a good combination of assistance and home life.

Less Physical Stress

For some seniors, living in a care facility can be physically stressful. If they have mobility issues, they may have to wait long periods for assistance with bathroom tasks or getting from one place to another throughout the facility. If the seniors attempt to do things for themselves instead, this could result in physical strain. With in-home care, a senior will always have someone on hand to help immediately; waiting is rarely necessary.

Safety

In-home senior care is often the safer option. Older individuals who might need a great deal of assistance with mobility and personal care tasks should have someone on hand dedicated to their needs. In a care facility, it’s necessary to wait your turn for assistance. Depending on how busy the staff is, a patient may be left waiting for a while. This could lead to injuries or a lack of needs getting met quickly enough.

The Feeling of Home

According to the CDC, major depression in older people living in the community ranges from less than 1% to 5%. However, this percentage rises to 13.5% in those who require home healthcare and to 11.5% in older hospitalized patients. Because older individuals are vulnerable to depression, they must have a lot of positive energy surrounding them. This is easier to accomplish in a home setting than in a facility.
