Certified Nursing Assitants (CNAs)

Job Description:

CNA's Home Health Aides are certified to perform, but are not limited to, the following tasks:
  • Provide care as outlined in the care plan;
  • Respect patient confidentiality;
  • Provide emotional support;
  • Assist with and perform mouth care;
  • Assist with bathing (bed bath, partial, shower);
  • Provide skin care;
  • Assist with and perform grooming (hair care, shaving);
  • Assist with and perform dressing;
  • Assist with exercise and activity;
  • Assist with and perform transfers;
  • Measure vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure);
  • Empty Foley Catheter drainage bags;
  • Change colostomy bag if appliance accommodates removal without peeling the bag
     off the skin. Further care must be approved by the supervising RN;
  • Record activities and observations;
  • Report unusual client signs and behavior;
  • Take measures to keep home in safe condition;
  • Report incidents of danger to client or aide;
  • Perform meal preparation of regular meals or prescribed diet;
  • Assist with feeding;
  • Perform shopping and food storage;
  • Perform light housekeeping (i.e. clean bathroom, client's quarters, clean kitchen
     after meals, clean appliances, mending and light ironing);
  • Perform client's laundry tasks;
  • Change or make client's bed;
  • Assist client with oral medicines poured and labeled by the nurse or other
     responsible party;
  • Use medically prescribed equipment that is not invasive;
  • Call Supervisor for guidance whenever questions arise.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPNs)

Overview:

Under general supervision; LPN is responsible for work of average difficulty involving routine nursing care; supervises a number of Nursing Assistants; performs related work as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Directs work of nursing assistants; administers medication, injections, and routine treatments; makes staff assignments; assists in the evaluation of patient care; accepts doctor's orders where appropriate, and notifies administrative supervisor of any significant change in patients' condition; assists with general health care of clients; observes and records signs and symptoms of changes in patient's condition or behavior.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, LPN must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Ability to follow oral and written directions that are technical and detailed; ability to organize and supervise nursing care of clients; ability to provide care for and develop rapport with the clients; ability to maintain and interpret records and reports; ability to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations.

Education and/or Experience:

Must possess, as a minimum, Nursing Degree from an accredited college or be a graduate of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing Program.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must possess current Maryland, DC and/or Virginia license as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Registered Nurse (RNs)

Overview:

The registered nurse is a health care professional that possesses a distinct body of knowledge. This knowledge is obtained through educational and professional experience.

Qualifications:

 1. Currently licensed in the state of Maryland as a registered nurse.
 2. Currently CPR certified.
 3. Minimum of 1 year current clinical experience.
 4. Documentation of current immunization or proof of chest Xray
 5. The ability to perform tasks involving physical demands
 6. Must pass appropriate skills tests.
 7. Adheres to all policies and procedures of Specialty Care Services
 8. The ability to communicate effectively, orally and written.

Responsibilities:

 1. Performs nursing care using sound judgment.
 2. Implements physician's orders in a safe and accurate manner.
 3. Transcribes and implements new physician orders.
 4. Assists with admitting, discharging and transferring patients.
 5. Maintain detailed and accurate records of nursing actions.
 6. Participates in health/therapeutic counseling, teaching, and emotional
     support for patients and their significant others.
 7. Adapts to the needs of the agency by demonstrating flexibility/adaptability.
 8. Makes home visits on assigned patients and prioritizes patient's needs.
 9. Maintains a safe and clean environment for patients and co-workers.
 10. Formulates, modifies and implements goal oriented patient care plans
       according to agency policies.
 11. Provides and receives reports on status of patients.
 12. Administers medication and therapies within the scope of safe nursing practice.
 13. Assumes responsibility to report clinical limitations or the need for
       assistance to the supervisor.
 14. Performs all other duties as assigned by the nursing supervisor.
